Our story
Brook trout are an iconic species of the Southern Appalachian Mountains, woven into the region’s cold-water streams and natural history for thousands of years. Long before Hurricane Helene caused widespread damage across western North Carolina, these native fish were already facing mounting pressure from habitat loss, warming waters, and fragmented populations. The storm made those vulnerabilities impossible to ignore, altering familiar streams and pushing already-stressed brook trout closer to the edge. That moment underscored the need for focused, long-term conservation efforts, leading to the creation of the North Carolina Brook Trout Association to help protect, restore, and sustain brook trout populations in the mountains they have always called home.

Our passion for outdoorsmanship is rooted in time spent on the water and a responsibility to leave these places better than we found them. Conservation is not optional. It is essential to preserving brook trout and the mountain streams they depend on.
Meet the Team

President, Founder, and Board memberTrey Creasy is the founder of the North Carolina Brook Trout Association and a lifelong angler who grew up fishing saltwater before discovering fly fishing in the Southern Appalachians. He is a pharmacist, earning his PharmD from High Point University in 2021, and holds a BS in geology from University of North Carolina at Charlotte. His professional background informs a data-driven, science-based approach to conserving native brook trout and the streams they depend on.

Board memberA lifelong angler, he grew up fishing around Stone Mountain State Park and Boone, North Carolina. He graduated from Appalachian State University in 2018 and now works in analytics for a Charlotte based finance firm.
He currently resides in Asheville and serves as President of Friends of Stone Mountain and the Traphill Angling Society. He is actively involved in nonprofit brook trout conservation, with a focus on preserving North Carolina’s native trout and expanding public angling opportunities.
